Grace Kelly (1929-1982)

Grace Kelly won an Academy Award and then became Princess of Monaco, which sounds like the kind of storybook turn that doesn't have much to do with a guy who spent 34 years on a mill floor, but stick with me. What actually gets my respect is that she didn't just enjoy the title — she used the position to found AMADE Mondiale, an organization dedicated to protecting children's rights worldwide, and kept at that work seriously for the rest of her life. I've seen plenty of people get handed a platform and do nothing useful with it. Kelly had about as big a platform as existed in her era and put real effort behind an actual cause instead of just showing up for photographs. Donna likes her old movies more than I do, but I'll say this for Grace Kelly: crown or no crown, she did something with what she had. That's the only measuring stick I ever really trust.
