Sidney Crosby (b. 1987)

Sidney Crosby has captained his team to multiple Stanley Cups and is widely considered one of the greatest hockey players ever, which as someone who grew up in Texas with essentially zero hockey exposure, I mostly know through my comedy-writer friends who will not stop bringing him up whenever Canada comes up in conversation, which is more often than you'd think. Being 'the captain' in any team sport is basically the job of being the responsible one while everyone else gets to have the fun highlight-reel moments, and Crosby's apparently been doing that job at an elite level for a very long time without it seeming to burn him out. I respect longevity like that in any field — my own startup burned out in eighteen months, and that was without anyone checking my body into the boards on a nightly basis. Winning multiple championships as captain, not just as a talented player but as the guy everyone else is looking to, is a specific kind of pressure I genuinely can't imagine handling.
