Sara Teasdale won a Pulitzer Prize for lyrical, emotionally direct poetry, which is a kind of writing I find myself drawn back to more since becoming a mother, honestly — there's less patience these days for anything overwrought when I do get a quiet twenty minutes to read, and directness reads as its own kind of craft rather than a simpler one. I think in visual composition constantly as a designer, and good lyric poetry has that same quality — every line placed exactly where it needs to be, nothing extraneous cluttering the frame, which takes far more discipline than it looks like from the outside. Teasdale's poetry apparently achieved real emotional clarity without needing ornament to get there, the verbal equivalent of clean, confident design work. I find that harder to pull off than the more elaborate version, in writing or in visual work both — restraint that still lands emotionally is the actual hard mode, not the easy one, whatever people assume looking at the finished, simple-seeming result.
