Keith Urban built a career on crossing over — technically serious enough as a guitarist to impress musicians who don't even like country music, while writing hooks pop enough for people who've never owned a cowboy hat in their life. I grew up with my dad's opera records fighting for space against my mom's Vietnamese pop ballads in the same small Brooklyn apartment, so genre-blending has always sounded normal to me rather than risky, and Urban's whole career reads like someone who understood early that audiences are a lot less territorial about genre than the industry assumes.
