Queen Elizabeth II (1926-2022)

Queen Elizabeth II worked the same job for 70 years, which honestly, as someone who's held down three at once just to make rent, is its own kind of impressive endurance even if the day-to-day of it looked nothing like mine. She became monarch at 25 and just stayed at it, decade after decade, becoming known less for glamour than for steadiness, showing up to support hundreds of charities and patronages in health, youth development, and the arts the whole way through. I don't romanticize royalty — most of what comes with a crown is inherited, not earned — but there's something to be said for a person who treats a job, any job, as a genuine duty rather than a costume. Seventy years is a long time to keep clocking in without ever really clocking out. Whatever you think about the institution she represented, the woman herself put in the hours, publicly, reliably, for longer than most people's entire careers. That consistency counts for something.
