Leonardo DiCaprio (b. 1974)

I think of Leonardo DiCaprio's career almost like a color palette that's shifted slowly over time — he started as this bright, boyish leading man in Titanic and has spent the decades since deepening into rougher, more textured roles like The Revenant, the kind of performance where you can practically feel the cold on screen. Designers notice that stuff, how a whole persona can be reworked over years the way you'd revise a composition, without losing what made it recognizable in the first place. What I actually respect more than any of the roles, though, is that he's put real weight behind environmental philanthropy through his foundation instead of just doing a photo op here and there. I was up at 3 a.m. with the baby recently, half-delirious, thinking about how strange it is that someone that famous chose to spend decades of his actual capital, not just his image, on something that won't finish paying off in his lifetime. That's a longer view than most of us get to take, honestly, between diaper changes and deadlines.
