Enrique Iglesias (b. 1975)

My kids grew up hearing Enrique Iglesias on every radio station we had in the car between jobs, so becoming one of the best-selling Latin music artists of all time isn't a surprise to me the way it might be to somebody who wasn't around Spanish-language radio in the '90s and 2000s. What that kind of sales number actually represents is years and years of staying relevant across changing music trends, not one lucky hit that happened to catch on, and staying power like that takes real work even when the songs themselves sound effortless. I don't have much patience for people who assume a pop career is easy money, because I've watched enough behind-the-scenes documentaries during long delivery shifts to know how much of that industry chews people up fast. Lasting decades at that level of sales means somebody kept adapting instead of coasting on one sound. My oldest still knows every word to songs I played for him as a toddler, which tells you something about how deep that kind of music actually settled into an entire generation of households like mine.
