Constance Wu (b. 1982)

Constance Wu her lead roles in Crazy Rich Asians and on Fresh Off the Boat hit different for people like me who grew up basically never seeing anyone who looked like our families on screen — like, I remember exactly where I was when Fresh Off the Boat premiered because it felt genuinely rare, not just nice-to-have rare. She's been vocal about wanting more Asian American representation in Hollywood, and I get why that matters so much beyond just 'seeing yourself,' it's about who gets to tell which stories and who's stuck being the sidekick forever. My family's whole experience is filtered through being the ones explaining ourselves to everyone else, so I have a lot of feelings about representation as a concept generally, maybe too many feelings honestly. Anyway I'm not going to pretend I know every detail of her career, but the impact of those two shows on an entire generation of kids who finally saw something familiar is real and I don't think people give that enough credit.
